How did CRIMES and MURDERS help me to improve my English?! πŸ”¦πŸ§³

Long time, no post! No more I hope. I really enjoy writing here.

So I have been thinking of this for a few weeks and this is really very helpful for people who are interested in crimes mainly. So if you are not you may skip this post.

It is proven that a lot of people actually learn when they use materials that they really like. And for me, I love dramatised crime shows and it was the reason why I actually learned English. In fact, I watch a lot of crimes every day. And what is interesting is that I picked up a lot of words from just watching those shows.

As you may imagine I also have a subscription to some channels that are dedicated to shows like that. And from them, I also have been following a lot of unsolved cases like the cases of Steven Avery’s, JonBenΓ©t Patricia Ramsey’s, Jodi Arias’s, and many others.

I know for a fact that a lot of people hate to watch gruesome and dark shows but in case of that, you can apply what is written to what you like.

So here are the tips

1. Find a daily show.

There are a lot of daily shows on YouTube so even if you are not interested in dramatised crimes you can find anything that you like by using YouTube keywords.

For those who are interested here is an amazing channel for daily videos.

2. Dedicate time to watch every day.

Yes, it is as simple as that. Learning is not rocket science. It just needs dedication and patience. Nobody learns without those two important things.

And YouTube is awesome, you can turn on the notifications to be notified every day. You can also set your own daily reminder.

Recommendations

I’d like to recommend some shows or documentaries that you may be interested in watching them.

  1. On Netflix
    The confession tapes
    Killer women
    Making a murderer
    Serial killer with Piers Morgan
    Shadow of truth
    Abducted in plain sight
    Amanda Knox
    Out of thin air
    Casting Jonbenet

2. Youtube

My favourite 🀩 (I love their TV channel and their app as well)

Now my way at first was to show the subtitles and screenshot the new words when I find them. After watching the show I go to write down all the new words to make Memrise and Anki decks.

After a while when I felt able to understand what is being said. I stopped putting the subtitles on and now I just enjoy watching the shows.

And don’t forget:

Keep practising and enjoy learning!

I now feel like you are one of those people who sit back and watch in complete darkness those dark shows. With a blanket πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Hey Jojo, I’m elated to see that you’ve restarted to write articles, it had been been a while since the last time that you did so ! To be honest, I’m not into crime but it was still a pleasure read from you and I’m looking forward to your next piece πŸ™‚
